Serbia, grapes and wine

Dear Visitor

Homepage, were You currently are, is founded on purpose to share our own experience and interesting information about Serbian wine cellars, local grape varieties and wine traditions in general.

A large part of the country, even before the Romans, was colonized by the ancient Phoenicians and they were at that time the first cultivated vines in the territory. The exact time of creation and the beginning of the wine consumption in our country is not known, but it is known that the history of Serbian wine certainly longer than 1,000 years.

Local grape yards, blossomed already on glory days of Romans, range today roughly on 70 000 hectares.

Located at the same geographic latitude as the major French wine making regions, Serbia is a country of great wine producing potential. Back in the 19th century it was a significant wine producer in Europe.

Long traditions of Serbian winemaking, within last ten years when a number of private manufacturers have built modern wine cellars, have become known beyond the borders of Serbia.

Vina Balkan has been established among the friends having a long lasting connection to Serbia and local wineries with an idealistic idea to bring Serbian wines closer to the Baltic and Nordic wine audience.
